Apple Cider Vinegar
This is one of the most popular home remedies used for an array of ailments. It is very safe to use and can be given in very small amounts on a regular basis. It is excellent for infections, parasite infestation, skin problems, digestive complaints, urinary tract infections, ear conditions and ringworm.
Apple cider vinegar can be added to drinking water in a very small amount (¼ -1 tsp in a bowl of drinking water). If you have a fussy cat or dog and they refuse to drink their water, lower the amount or try putting it in the food instead.
Apart from its healing properties, apple cider vinegar provides an array of enzymes, vitamins and minerals.

Brewers Yeast
Brewer's yeast is known as an excellent source of amino acids and B-complex vitamins, which assist in skin and tissue repair, help maintain proper nerve functioning, and support a healthy response to stress.

Chia Seeds
High in Omega 3, omega 6 and fibre, Chia seeds are a natural form of antioxidants and minerals including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. When added to liquid, Chia seeds swell and thicken providing bulk to the diet. Unlike some other oils, Chia seeds in their whole form don’t go rancid. Chia seeds can assist to coat the lining of the gut during times of an upset stomach.
Chia seeds are 20% protein and 30% fat. They do not need to be ground for cats and dogs to obtain the nutritional benefits from them, unlike flaxseeds.

Chlorella
Chlorella is a microscopic plant abundant in vitamins and minerals. It is known for it’s unique ability to cleanse and detoxify the body. Coconut
Coconut has a history of being one of the greatest foods on the planet.
Coconut improves digestion and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and amino acids. Its antimicrobial fatty acids are incredibly valuable to the immune system, fighting off viruses, bacterial and fungal overgrowths. Coconut improves the utilization of blood sugar. Its raw saturated fats contain lauric acid, a powerful antiviral and anti-bacterial substance. It helps the body use omega 3 and 6 oils more efficiently. As coconut cannot be stored in the body as fat it must be used as energy within the body. As a result it speeds up the metabolism and can assist weight loss.
Organic desiccated coconut is high in Lauric Acid and is high in dietary fibre. It’s also high in albumin, which assists in the formation of red blood cells.
The saturated fat abundant in coconuts is made up of medium length chain fatty acids (rather than the long chains found in other saturated fats). These medium chain fatty acids (unlike long chains) permeate cell membranes very easily and are readily sent to the liver to be converted into useable energy rather than stored as fat. This makes coconut an incredible source of energy.

Coconut Water

Whilst it should not replace drinking water, coconut water can be used as a treat every 2-3 days. It’s another great way to add variety and excellent nutrients to the diet.

Cranberry Powder
Cranberry has the effect of lowering the pH of the urine, making it acidic and increasing the pH in the body, making it alkaline. Cranberry also has a polysaccharide called mannose, which decreases the ability of the bacteria to adhere to the bladder wall. As a result, bacteria are flushed out with the urine. A common problem in cats is FLUTD (feline lower tract disease) in which microscopic crystals form in an alkaline bladder.
FLUTD is best treated with cranberry, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and glucosamine. Together, these supplements can help the bladder to heal in conjunction with veterinary medicine.
This supplement should only be used if your cat or dog has been diagnosed with a problem, which requires the urine to be more acidic. If the urine is too acidic for too long this may cause ‘oxalate stones’ in the bladder to form. This is something, which should be discussed with your veterinarian.

Dulse Flakes
Dulse is a sea vegetable. It is a scientifically proven antioxidant and a source of plant protein. It’s high in vitamins A, C, E, B-6 and B-12 plus calcium, iodine, magnesium, and fiber. Kelp has a much higher content of iodine than Dulse.

Slippery Elm. This is a great herb to have on hand in the home for pet and human emergencies. Slippery elm, rather like its name, provides a lubricating barrier to the digestive, urinary and respiratory tracts to protect and sooth irritated mucous membranes from irritation. If your cat or dog is suffering from an upset stomach, diarrhoea, constipation, sore throat, upper respiratory infection or a urinary tract infection, slippery elm is a very soothing herb. In cases of constipation it protects and lubricates the mucous membranes of the large intestine and helps to relax the smooth muscles required for excretion. This is not an herb to be used regularly as it can prevent the absorption of some nutrients. Use slippery elm only when needed.
